Boarding

Whether it is work, vacation, or personal issues that require you to be away on travel, our team at Gentle Care Animal Hospital knows that it is never easy to leave your fur baby behind. That is why we offer boarding services to pet owners in Forest, Lynchburg, and the surrounding communities. When you board with us, you can have peace of mind while you’re away knowing that your pets are safe and well cared for.

We offer several clean and secure, climate-controlled boarding areas that accommodate both dogs and cats. We have kennel areas for smaller dogs and two rooms with 3 ft x 5 ft indoor runs for larger dogs. Dogs are leash walked 4 to 5 times a day so they can attend to business and have some outdoor exercise time in our fenced back yard. Our feline friends have a separate area away from their canine counterparts so that they can relax in a quiet, stress-free area. They receive individualized attention every day and are lodged in a roomy cage with an ample sized sleeping area. All pets are fed twice daily, and we supply beds, bowls, blankets, and litter boxes.

Our veterinarians strongly discourage pet owners from leaving their pets home alone for prolonged periods of time because of pet safety and health concerns. Even if your neighbor is able to check in on your pet once a day, this is no substitute for the routine companionship and attention that your pet is used to receiving from you. Being left alone for hours and days at a time can result in stressed and anxious pets.

Should your pet be home alone, and a health emergency occurs, it could be hours or days before your pet receives emergency care. If your pet boards with us and happens to need emergency care during their stay, you can feel confident knowing that our veterinarian is only steps away. We will have your pet’s records on file, and our veterinary team will act swiftly to safeguard your pet’s health.

If this is your pet’s first-time boarding, or if he/she has had a negative experience in the past, it is natural to worry about how your pet will adjust to boarding at Gentle Care Animal Hospital. We recommend a “practice run” for pets prior to an extended boarding visit. A short, overnight stay in our kennel will help your pet adjust to our routine and environment and, most importantly, your return the next morning will reassure your pet that you will be coming back for him next time. Additionally, we will be happy to work with you on alternative ways to help your pet relax and enjoy his/her time at our home away from home as needed.

In order to ensure the safety and health of all pets in our vet clinic, we recommend pets being up to date with the following vaccinations: Dogs-Distemper/Parvo Combination, Bordetella, Rabies, and a negative fecal within the past 12 months. Cats-Distemper, Upper Respiratory Combination, Rabies, and a negative fecal within the past 12 months.

We also offer grooming services to boarding guests. When making your boarding reservation, please book your grooming or bath appointment to ensure that our groomers will be able to accommodate your pet.

Gentle Care Animal Hospital offers the perfect solution for pet parents who prefer to have veterinary supervision for their furry family members in a safe, comfortable environment.
